House clearances are different from a typical clear-out. You are usually working under pressure, whether that is a probate deadline, a landlord requiring vacant possession, or a family downsizing from a large property. A 6-yard or 8-yard skip parked on the driveway gives you a fixed container you can fill at your own pace without repeated trips to the tip. For a full house the 8-yard maxi is the most common choice; a 12-yard is worth considering if the property has a loft or outbuildings. We take furniture, carpets, curtains, bedding, boxed household goods and general clutter. Fridges, freezers, televisions and computer monitors are not allowed in a standard skip because they require separate licensed disposal. Mattresses can sometimes be included but need to be declared when you book so we can advise. Chemical products, paint and anything pressurised must be kept out of any skip. If you are unsure about an item, call us before you load it. All waste we collect is processed at a licensed transfer station. Usable furniture that cannot go in the skip can often be redirected to local charity reuse schemes before the skip arrives, which reduces landfill and the volume of skip you actually need. If you are clearing a rental property in Faringdon, Abingdon, Wantage or anywhere within our 30-mile radius, we can usually deliver next working day and agree a collection date that fits around your handover.

House Clearance Skips, FAQs
What size skip do I need for a full house clearance?
For a typical three-bedroom house an 8-yard maxi skip is usually enough for furniture, carpets and general contents. If the property has a full loft, a large garage or outbuildings, a 12-yard skip is a safer choice. You can also hire two skips sequentially if you are working through the property in stages. We can advise based on the property size and condition when you call.
Can I put a fridge or washing machine in a house clearance skip?
No. Fridges and freezers contain refrigerant gas and must be disposed of separately under the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) regulations. Washing machines, dishwashers and most electrical white goods are also excluded from skips. Your local council will collect these from the kerbside for free on request, or we can arrange separate WEEE collection alongside the skip if you let us know when booking.
Do I need a permit if the skip has to go on the road outside the property?
Yes. If the skip cannot fit on a private driveway or forecourt and must sit on a public highway, a permit from Oxfordshire County Council is required. We apply for this on your behalf, which typically adds two to three working days to the lead time and a permit fee to the hire cost. If access allows the skip to be placed on private land, no permit is needed. Tell us the situation when you book and we will confirm what applies.
What happens to the contents after the skip is collected?
The skip goes to a licensed waste transfer station where loads are sorted. Materials such as wood, metals and cardboard are separated for recycling. General mixed household waste that cannot be recycled goes to an approved facility. We are required by law to hold a Waste Carrier licence, which we do, and you can ask us for our licence number at any time. You should not hire any skip company that cannot provide this.
