A domestic skip is the straightforward way to deal with household waste when a bin bag simply will not cut it. We deliver to driveways and private land across a 30-mile radius of Faringdon, and we collect when you are ready. Most households choose a 4-yard or 6-yard builders skip, which holds roughly the equivalent of 40 to 60 bin bags. If you are taking on a bathroom or kitchen refit, a loft clear-out, or a full room renovation, a 6-yard or 8-yard skip gives you room to work without worrying you will run out of space mid-job. You can fill a domestic skip with general household waste, furniture, wood, garden waste, and bagged rubble in small quantities. There are some items we cannot accept: fridges and freezers must go through a registered WEEE route because of the refrigerant they contain, and the same applies to televisions and monitors. Mattresses need separate collection and attract a small surcharge. Tins of paint, solvents, oils, and other chemicals are not permitted in any skip. If you are unsure about a specific item, ring us before you start loading. If your skip needs to sit on a public road rather than your driveway, a council skip permit is required. We handle the permit application for you and include the cost in the quote, so there is nothing extra to arrange. We work with licensed waste transfer stations in Oxfordshire, and the majority of what comes out of a domestic skip is sorted and recycled rather than sent to landfill.

Domestic Skip Hire, FAQs
What size skip do I need for a kitchen or bathroom refit?
A 4-yard midi skip is usually enough for a small bathroom strip-out. For a full kitchen refit with units, worktops, and floor tiles, a 6-yard builders skip is more realistic. If you are doing both rooms at once, go to an 8-yard maxi skip to avoid having to book a second collection. As a rough guide, a 6-yard skip holds around 50 to 60 bin bags of waste.
Do I need a permit if the skip goes on my driveway?
No permit is needed if the skip sits entirely on private land, such as your driveway or garden. If any part of the skip overhangs the pavement or it has to go on the road, you need a council permit. We apply for the permit on your behalf and add the cost to your quote. Permit fees in the Vale of White Horse district are currently around £36 to £48 depending on duration, and we will give you the exact figure when you book.
Can I put soil and rubble in a domestic skip?
Small amounts of bagged soil or rubble are fine alongside general household waste. However, if you have more than roughly a quarter of a skip's worth of heavy material, we recommend booking a separate inert skip or requesting a grab lorry. Heavy material dramatically increases the vehicle weight and can push a mixed load over the permitted limit, which means we may have to leave some of it behind when we collect.
Why can't I put a fridge or mattress in the skip?
Fridges and freezers contain gases that must be safely removed before the unit is scrapped. Disposing of them without that process is a criminal offence under the Fluorinated Gases Regulations, not just a company rule. Mattresses are not accepted in standard skips because most recycling facilities will not process them mixed with general waste, and they take up a disproportionate amount of space. We can arrange separate collection for both; just let us know when you book.
